Bienno
Camonica Valley
What we will see
The ancient village of Bienno, located in the middle of the Camonica Valley, is classified among one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Walking through the streets it is possible to admire tower houses built for defensive purposes and noble palaces. Its wealth began in the middle ages when the Benedictine Monks introduced the water wheel to operate mills and hammers used for iron working and weapon production. Bienno would reach its maximum splendor in the Venetian period. Today it is possible to visit the forge museum which houses an imposing 2 quintal mallet still in working order and used for forging demonstrations and the mill that still grinds cereal today. In the historical centre it is possible to visit the church of St. Maria Annunciata which houses frescos by local painters.
